My goal as a trimmer is to give my equines the best bare hooves that allow them to perform as well or better than their shod counterparts. This can be challenging in the mountainous terrain that I ride, but with the use of hoof boots when needed, that goal has been attainable.
Although I do rehabilitate horses hooves that have need of that type of trim, I have found that an animal with a natural lifestyle, and who is fully transitioned to barefoot, does well with minimal maintenance trims during the Summer. This gives them better performance in the rock and hard ground that make up the terrain in the area in which I ride. I can save any correction or tweeking on their hooves for Winter when the ground is softer and more forgiving. During the Summer riding season, I use EZ Care hoof boots when the animals need them. The "Glove" has proven itself to be very reliable and easy to apply.
